Are you falling in love with Italy because of a relaxing and beautiful vacation you took here? Did a creator or coach promise you a stress-free move or sell you on a stress-free life here?

Vacation Italy is wonderful. The food, the pace, the beauty. Nobody is rushing you. Everything feels magical. But vacation Italy is not the same as living-in-Italy. Your hotel runs on hospitality and angling for that five-star review. Real Italian life runs on Italian time and bureaucracy that loves precision.

When will the electrician come? Sometime tomorrow. What time does your accountant want to meet? Mid-morning. That’s not rudeness or disorganization. That’s the culture. And if you come from a place where everything runs on a tight schedule, it will take some getting used to.

No matter where you live, moving is stressful. Life is stressful.

Paperwork is ugly and never quite right for the office worker you’re dealing with. Your real estate agent lied to you. Nobody told you that you had eight days to file that form. The garbage isn’t being picked up at your new Italian house, and the power keeps shutting itself off. It takes months to get your residence permit the first time, and months every time you renew it. You had no idea the septic tank on your property was illegal. You qualify for Italian citizenship, but didn’t realize it would take years to be approved and awarded.

There is no such thing as a stress-free move or life. It’s a fantasy, and I wish I could offer it to you, but it’s not realistic. The first time you stress out, the “stress-free” illusion is broken.

Having the right team can help: a great lawyer, real estate agent, geometra, and a coach who can help you understand Italy before things get funky, or help you once there’s a problem.

Be careful of anybody selling the dream of a stress-free life.

I’m here to sell you on the reality, the pros and cons, and to make sure you’re ready for all of it. If you relocate, make an informed choice based on what moving and life are really like, and beware someone overselling the dream or vacation version of Italy as everyday life.
